Welcome to the Lishi Picks Course site

Welcome to Lishi Picks Course. At my own home I run this course, it’s that simple. I’m not a large training company. My main career is been a locksmith here in Leeds. Over the years I become good at using Lishi Picks and slowly has more and more locksmiths ask me to show them how to use them.

After a while I decided to start offering training sessions a bit more seriously and set up this site! On my Lishi Pick Course I will show you how to pick the commonly used lishi picks for vehicles in the UK, however if you are visiting from overseas just message me and I will show you popular Lishi picks to use for your country.

As part of the course, I will also teach you how to use the ‘gold finger‘ tool and airbag tool. This is a tool which I use as a last resort in order to open the car door in the rare case where you cannot pick it with your lishi pick.

Business Tips

I will also discuss with you some business tips on how to utilize your lishi pick skills to earn money. There are various ways to gain calls from customers in this area. There are even multiple companies which you can register for who will provide you with leads for no charge.

After the course, I will add you to my whatsapp and if you ever need assistance just call.

Before I introduce my Lishi Pick Course let me give you a brief introduction to Lishi Picks. Professional locksmith around the world use these pick. Original developed by Mr Lishi in China, Lishi Picks use have grown and grown over the years in almost every country. They are precision quality instruments which are used in the lock picking industry in order to open car doors when the keys have either been lost or they have been locked inside.

A selection of picks from the lishi pick course
Many Lishi Picks to choose from

A Lishi Pick works by inserting the pick into the car doors lock where the key normally goes in. Sometimes the key hole doesn’t get used very often due to many people now opening car doors with a remote control. However a quick spray of lubricant, ideally GT85 into the lock and help to loosen the lock up and is a good preparation technique to do prior to attempting to pick the lock, this will be shown on the Lishi Pick course.

Lubricate the lock

Simply spray the WD40 into the cars lock and wiggle the pick around inside the lock so that the lubricant gets inside all the pins of the lock, then wait 60 seconds before attempting to pick the lock so that you give the lubricant time to work its way in.

Once the lubricant has seeped its way nice and fully into the lock its time to try and pick it which is something we show you on our Lishi Pick course. The Lish Pick tool is inserted into the cars lock all the way in as far as it will go. The mistake a lot of people make it to not insert the pick fully meaning you won’t be in the right position when picking the lock. Once the pick is fully in this is when you can attempt to pick the pins or wafers in the lock.

Identifying parts of the Lishi Pick will be part of the course

Car locks are like house locks

You see a car lock works in much the same way as a regular cylinder lock which you would find on a residential door. Instead of having pins inside the lock, the lock has wafers inside. On a residential door, a normal locksmith can pick the lock by first pressing a slight tension on the lock with a tension tool and then at the same time picking the pins one by one to line them up with the sheer line.

Well picking a car lock is no different. You use the main body of the Lishi Pick as a tension tool to slightly turn the lock, while at the same time using the 2 arms to pick the locks wafers and position them in the correct position in order to make the lock and door open.

Why are there two arms on a Lishi Pick?

Unlike a normal cylinder lock in a residential doors for example, there are pins (or wafers) on both the top and bottom sides of the lock. With a house lock their are usually only pins on one side (the bottom) of the lock. Car locks have wafers / pins on 2 sides, the top and bottom, and therefore you need 2 arms to pick each side. One arm picks the top row of wafers and the other picks the bottom.

There is no rule as to whether you should start with picking the top or bottom row of pins first, you will only know which to try first by feeling, something we show you on the Lishi Pick Course. As you pick each wafer, you will feel the lock turn ever so slightly and sometimes you have to adjust the tension accordingly. As a general rule, the tension should be increased slightly after each wafer is picked.

Different types of Lish Picks?

Difference between Original Lishi & Mr Lishi? Lishi Genuine?

When searching and researching about Lishi Pick tools online, you may have come across different names for them. You may have seen whats called ”genuine lishi picks” and also ”classic lishi picks”.
I will discuss the story and history behind this on the Lishi Pick Course should you be interested. Knowing the story won’t help you learn how to pick locks better, however it is interesting none the less. I will discuss it briefly here.

Who is Mr Lishi?

Essentially, there is a very smart man in China who first developed picks which could be used to open and pick car locks and to decode them. His name was Mr Li. On Mr Li’s tools you will see the logo of what appears to be an older gentleman, this is Mr Li. He is the original creator of these kind of picks. Rumer has it that Mr Li had a business partner who borrowed Mr Li’s concept and started selling vey similar products in europe under the name of Genuine Lishi.

For the sake of clarity, I must say that this story is my opinion and I cannot guarantee its level of truthfulness. However this seems to be the common story theme on many websites online. Because of this story many people prefer to buy the classic Lishi Picks (the ones with the logo of the old man on them) as they see these as the original and best lishi picks. However if you don’t care about the story or the history, then in my opinion, both brands are just as good as each other. Me personally, I use classic lishi picks as a personal preference.

Who is Martin Pink? Does he do Lishi Pick Courses too?

Where Lishi Picks are mentioned, you may have heard of a man called Martin Pink. Martin Pink is a very smart auto locksmith. Martin has developed and contributed towards multiple training guides and manuals both onlien and offline which help to teach people how to use Lishi Picks.

I can not be fully sure but I think Mr Pink has also contributed towards designing some of the newer Lishi Picks too. Mr Pink has become a god like figure in the auto locksmith industry and even has tools named after him such as Mr Pinks pick guns etc. Safe to say, if you ever get the opportunity to train with Mr Pink I would recommend it, however I imagine he is too busy to offer training these days.

What’s it mean to decode a lock?

Is a Lishi Pick a lock pick or a decoder? Why do I keep hearing both you ask? Well a 2 in 1 Lishi Pick is both a pick and a decoder. It is a pick because the arms allow you to pick the wafers and pick or open the lock. It is also a decoder because it has a range of numbers on the actual body of the pick.

With training and when correctly used, this allows the user to generate a numerical code from the pick after the lock has been picked and opened. This code allows you to then make a brand new key for the car. This is great in situations where the customer has lost all of their keys as it allows you to make a key for them to use to drive their vehicle again.

Glow in the dark Lishi Picks?

You may have heard of some types of car lock picks which glow in the dark. In my opinion this is a bit of a gimmick. Each pick costs a lot more because of it’s ”glow in the dark” feature. It may sound useful in theory, you think, that could be handy if I have to pick a pock at night as it may help may to see the numbers and marks on the Lishi Pick. However a simple solution to this is to simply buy a head torch lamp for 10 pounds / dollars, problem solved.

Instead of paying extra to have every single Lishi Pick ”glow in the dark” which, if purchased on every lishi pick increases your cost massively, just save your money, by regular Lishi Picks and get a head lamp instead so you can still see if it’s dark. I really see these kind of add ons as things for a locksmith who has everything and is looking for ways to get rid of their money, it’s just not worth it in my opinion, but hey I could be wrong.

Picking car locks at night?

Many people ask me what it’s like to be called out to a lost keys scenario at night time where you have to pick the lock. As long as you have a good head light so you see what you are doing its not much different than doing it in the daytime. The only thing I would mention is to just be a little bit more cautious at night time.

Now I don’t want to scare anyone, but very occasionally auto locksmiths do get targeted by thieves for their tools. I have heard of auto locksmiths getting called out for a fake ‘car keys lost’ job at night and then been mugged / robbed for their expensive tools. Think about it, if like many people, you buy the whole Lishi Pick set, you essentially have the keys to get access into almost any car.
